Lively business hub, quiet coastal town or cultural capital? An overview of the main cities – to help you choose where to live.
Business and financial centre, international port, many companies and expats. Lively, a bit pricier, excellent infrastructure.
The inland capital – seat of government, administration and universities. Divided by the Green Line.
Charming coastal town in the west with UNESCO heritage, popular with emigrants and pensioners. Own airport.
The main international airport, relaxed city life, a long beach promenade and good connections.
Mountain villages, wine-growing and cooler summers – ideal for nature lovers away from the coast.
In the east, known for dream beaches and tourism – lively in summer, quiet in winter.
Those working professionally, building a business or wanting to dive into international business life are usually best placed in Limassol – a large part of the Cypriot economy and the expat community is here. In return, rents and property prices are higher.
Paphos is especially popular with German-speaking emigrants and retirees: more relaxed, greener, with an established community and its own airport. Larnaca scores with the main airport and good value for money. Nicosia, as the inland capital, is more about work and study but is not by the sea.
Our tip: don't commit too quickly. Many emigrants rent first for a few months, get to know the island and then decide on a permanent location.
Paphos and Limassol are high on the list. Paphos is considered quieter and cheaper, Limassol more urban and international. Larnaca is a good compromise.
Most international employers and service providers are in Limassol and Nicosia. Many emigrants, however, work location-independently or through their own company.
