By European comparison Cyprus regularly has outstanding bathing water quality and numerous Blue Flag beaches. The swimming season runs from around May well into October, and the sea is pleasantly warm in late summer.
The west coast around Paphos is rockier and more natural, while the east around Ayia Napa and Protaras offers the classic fine sandy beaches. Those seeking quiet will find many small coves away from the tourist centres.
